After many long months, we've launched it! I'll write a little more about it once the dust settles.

The New York Times introduces Lens, a photojournalism blog that intends to present some of the most interesting visual and multimedia reporting: in photographs, videos, audio slide shows and any other medium that fits — our format. Lens will be a showcase...

Pogue-o-matic

This wasn't a typical project for me. It's a little less serious then projects I usually like to work on, but variety is good. This is also the first project in quite a while in which I worked with green-screen video. The setup for the shoot was sort of a hack, with gaffer taped green sheets on the floor and hanging from the ceiling. Honestly,...

Love in the First Person (MediaStorm)

MediaStorm just published a new edit of "Love in the First Person" today. I'm not surprised that Brian Storm wanted to take this story on, since he was super excited about it back when Chad Stevens proposed it as a story for "Soul of Athens". I'm exited about this story because it was a collaboration of incredible talent (just look at the credits for photography) and because of the tear-jerking intimacy of the story.

The Soul of Athens is LIVE

For the last 8 weeks, my life and the lives of my 44 students have been wrapped up in this incredible project. I've never seen this kind of dedication from a group of students before. If you were to go in to the multimedia lab here at OU in the last couple weeks at 3:00am you would find producers and coders hard at work with signs of heavy...

Announcing “Soul of Athens”

Posted by: Zach Wise    Tags:  Films, Documentary, Video, Soul of Athens    Posted date:  April 15, 2007  |  1 Comment

In a brave new world of multimedia journalism, the award-winning Visual Communication School at Ohio University led by Brian Storm of MediaStorm.org and Zach Wise of digitalartwork.net dares to ask the question:

What is the soul of the 200-year-old community of Athens, Ohio?

Athens soul is restless. Its stories lie beneath the bricks, waiting to be exposed. Precariously balanced on the tip of cosmopolitan Appalachia, its uninhibited subcultures test the bounds...
