Zach Wise is an award-winning producer for The New York Times. Most recently his work at The New York Times has garnered a Peabody award and an Emmy nomination for "Choosing a President". Before coming to the Times, he was the Senior Multimedia Producer at the Las Vegas Sun, where his work won many awards. He contributed to a Pulitzer prize winning piece on construction deaths on the Las Vegas Strip. His work at the Sun was also recognized at the Webby Awards, National Headliner's Awards, Online News Association and NPPA Best of Photojournalism. Wise was also a visiting professor for The School of Visual Communication at Ohio University where he was the executive producer of the Soul of Athens multimedia project and taught the classes that produced it. The project went on to win multiple awards from POYi and NPPA's Best of Photojournalism.

Choosing a President

This presidential campaign has been two years in the making and the political landscape has changed a lot over those two years.


Reckless Willie

Willie Chapman has 10 kids in 3 states and he’s 40 years old. Professional boxing matches are still his main income and also the only way he can pay child support to see his kids. Because of his age and losing record, Nevada may not license him to fight anymore. Willie also shows signs of dementia, most likely caused from continued brain trauma caused by boxing.


Leaving Las Vegas

I’ve accepted a job at the New York Times and I will be joining Andrew DeVigal and his all-star interactive team.


Scriptwriting with Celtx

Over the last couple of months, I’ve fallen in love with a little piece of software called Celtx. Celtx is a free program geared at pre-production.

US 95 South of Boulder

Five miles south of Boulder City, right off US-95, you’ll find a dry lake bed. On Independence Day, the dry lake bed fills with campers, trucks, cars, families and fireworks. Lots of fireworks.


Death Valley 121°

That’s not water, it’s heat. This was shot at one of the lower points in Death Valley where the temperature reached about 121°.

Remember Last Night

“Remember Last Night” is a short film I did as an undergrad for class. This was one of the first pieces I ever shot and edited. I think it was done about eight years ago, and DV was fairly new to the market (yeah, it’s that old).
